A chess web site offering expert chess coaching.  Services offered are private or group lessons, lessons on the internet, lectures, game annotations, and simultaneous exhibitions.  I also work with schools to help start or improve their school chess program.  If you have any questions please drop me a note, by clicking on the link below.  I teach adult as well as scholastic chess players.

I am Zeb Fortman II.  After a 33 year career at IBM, I am living my dream of being a full-time chess coach.  I am also Executive Director of the Kansas City Regional Chess Council (KCRCC),  Director of the Rockhurst Community Chess Camp, Instructor for the Rockhurst Community Chess Club, and  Program Director for the Be Your Best Play Chess” (BYBPC) program which has started its 6th year of operation and will be in 15 schools in the greater Kansas City Area during the 2005/2006 school year.

By applying the system I teach, a student can achieve quick and steady improvement.  Saving years of trial and error.  Many students, I have coached have won State, Regional and National titles.  I have been coaching over 20 years and  playing in tournaments since 1967.  I maintained a USCF Expert rating for over a decade while playing on a regular basis, reaching a high of 2122 USCF in 1988.  I have won the Missouri State Class A (“84) and Missouri State Expert (“95) titles, and in 1972 I played on a team representing the United States against Russia.  Please check out my student honor roll.  Thanks for stopping by.
